Tea beats disease

People pick green tea leaves in Xuan Truong Commune, some 20 kilometers from Da Lat in the Central Highland province of Lam Dong

Trà Xanh (Green tea) is more than just a refreshing drink in the heat; it can also be beefed up with various ingredients to remedy common illnesses and afflictions.
Here are some of the best:

1. Tea and vinegar ( Trà giấm )

Rinse 5g of green tea leaves in water and put them in a glass. Pour hot water over the leaves, add 1ml of vinegar, cover the glass and let stand for five minutes. Drink it after meals to treat diarrhea, reduce blood clots, regulate the stomach and relieve toothaches and other pains.

2. Trà đường (tea and red sugar)
Rinse 2g of green tea leaves, put in a glass with 10g of red sugar, pour in hot water and put a lid on it for five minutes. Drink the concoction after meals to quell indigestion, ease constipation, improve blood circulation and fix irregular menstruation.

3. Trà muối (tea and salt)
Rinse 3g of green tea leaves and put in a glass along with 1g of salt. Pour in hot water and let stand for seven minutes. Drink the remedy after meals for a light cough, infected wound, sore throat, stump inflammation, red eyes, cooling the body, and maintaining good eyesight. People with high blood pressure or slight perspiration problems should be cautious and not drink too much of this one.


4. Trà mật ong (tea and honey)
Rinse 3g of green tea leaves and put in a glass with 5ml of honey.
Pour in hot water and cover with a lid for five minutes. Drink the beverage after meals to cool an overheated body, tone up the blood and kidneys, soothe sore lungs, regulate the stomach, treat gingivitis and stump inflammation, and as a tonic after a nervous breakdown.


5. Trà sữa (tea and milk)
Rinse 5g of green tea leaves, put in a glass, pour in hot water, cover with a lid, and let stand for five minutes. Add 2g of fresh milk and a little white sugar before drinking. Good for chronic indigestion, servicing the spleen and stomach, keeping eyesight keen, and coping with a weak constitution.


6. Trà hoa cúc (tea and white daisy)
Rinse 2g of green tea leaves and 2g of white daisy, put in a glass, pour in hot water and cover for five minutes. Drink when cool for toning the liver, maintaining good eyesight, cooling and detoxifying the body, keeping the symptoms of aging at bay, relieving a headache, and treating high blood pressure, coughing and sore throat.


7. Trà táo đỏ (tea and red jujube)
Rinse 5g of green tea leaves and 10 red jujubes. Put the lot in a glass, pour in hot water, cover the top, and let stand for seven minutes. Serve it hot after meals for toning the spleen, treating incontinence at night, and improving the appetite.


8. Trà vỏ quýt (tea and mandarin skin)
Rinse 5g of green tea leaves and put in a glass together with 6g of dried mandarin skin. Pour in hot water, cover the glass, and leave for 20 minutes. Good for soothing sore lungs, releasing sputum, and treating a cough or sore throat.


9. Trà tỏi (garlic and tea)
Crush a whole bulb of garlic, rinse 60g of green tea leaves and put them together in a glass. Pour in hot water and cover for ten minutes. Drink the concoction throughout the day for seven consecutive days to cleanse, cool and detoxify the internal body, treat a cough and ease a sore throat.
